I'm Just a Bit Off Kilter

We tramped around the Marais district for a few hours today, in addition to visiting a couple of medical museums and the Musee d'Orsay. But first the neighborhood visit.

Howard was beginning to feel a bit shaggy, so he decided a Paris haircut might be the hip thing to do. Viola!

We got to meet up with a young friend, formerly of Salem (she went to school with Amy), who is now a beautiful young woman. Amity is living in Paris and doing all sorts of exciting things. We had an excellent meal at Le Potager du Marais (a vegetarian restaurant) and had fun catching up.

We visited two medical museums on Thursday, both at the medical school. The first, the Musee Dupuytren, was filled with specimens and because the images might be disturbing to sensitive readers (and to third graders, Mrs. Staley), I've put those images at the end of this post. The other museum, the Musee d'Historie de la Medecine, was small and quite interesting. I just love medical history . . .

On Thursday evening we visited the Musee d'Orsay, a lovely museum. Unfortunately, they allowed no photos to be taken, so here's my one lonely photo to share.

A gentle warning that the following images might be a bit disturbing to some of you and others will want MORE, which I have.

Only one more day in Paris and then we fly home on Saturday morning. What to do on our final day . . .

Night at the Museum . . .

. . . and morning at Versailles. Yep, it was a twofer kind of day. We spent the morning in the Paris burbs at Versailles, then the late afternoon and evening at the Louvre. But first, a brief glimpse of Versailles.

A teeny tiny bit of whining. While at Versailles, they had pieces of Japanese art sprinkled throughout the castle in different rooms and it seemed horribly out of place! I snapped a couple of photos just so you could get the idea -- some was far worse than this!

On our way to the Louvre, we stopped at Angelina's for a hot chocolate as recommended by my friends Joni and Jenna. I thought, okay, hot chocolate, so what's the big deal. And then I took my first sip. Oh my. Big deal.

After a rest in the afternoon (and our hot chocolate), we decided it was time to visit the Louvre, located only a block from our apartment (and Angelina's is only two blocks away -- evil, evil). The Louvre is open until 9:45 pm on Wednesdays, so we had plenty of time to meander. All I can say is that the Louvre IS all that it is cracked up to be.

And then my new boots. I've just gotta share them.
