Travel Post #3: Three Laps = A Mile

We travelled throughout the night, arriving in Kotor, Montenegro at 11:00 am on October 7th. It was a beautiful cruise on the Adriatic Sea and through a fjord to reach our destination.

We opted not to go ashore, instead enjoying the rugged beauty anchored a short ways from the shore.

Monday was a full day of cruising in the Mediterranean. Beautiful, sunny weather. Glimpses of life on board the ship.

ATHENS

It was announced on Monday evening that the chancellor of Germany would be visiting Athens on Tuesday causing strikes, demonstrations, and general mayhem in the city center. Therefore, all excursions into the city center were being cancelled and/or modified. We scrambled to change our planned excursion. We were still able to visit the Acropolis and Parthenon, but weren't able to visit the two museums we had hoped to see as they were located in the heart of the city. Our tour guide took us into the city in the morning, before the planned demonstrations were set to begin.

To the hill.

We had lunch outside of Athens at the Metropolitan Hotel. We discovered we were dining next to the executive chef of our cruise ship!

We drove about an hour out of town to Sounion where we got to see the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon.

Best line of the day as we travelled along the coastline when Penny, our Greek guide, saw a particular resort and said over the loudspeaker: Jesus Christ, I didn't know they had umbrellas!

Home sweet home.
