Travel Post #15: Naples, Italy - Herculaneum

Four years ago we were in Italy and had the opportunity to visit Pompeii. Thursday we were back in Naples and decided to visit the ancient excavated city of Herculaneum, a seaside resort area which was also buried by Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. Herculaneum was covered by a flood of hot mud, which buried, sealed, and protected the buildings.

PS I snapped so many photos of the crumbling and decaying walls - some of them looked like completed abstract paintings. I'm compiling a wonderful photographic resource for creating paintings and textures when I get home.
