Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: A Public Service Announcement

First, I want to say thank you to all of our awesome friends, family, and colleagues who have generously stepped up and made a contribution to the upcoming fundraiser “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence.” We have been surprised, inspired, and humbled by everyone who has contributed. It has been a long time since we have gotten involved in any kind of “cause,” but this was one we could easily get behind. Those of you who have contributed showed support for SARC, for our daughter, Amy, and us because we chose to commit ourselves to this event. We know it is a serious subject, but we’ve had fun with the sparkly shoes and the very idea that Howard is willing to walk in them! To see my original post on the walk, click here.

Here’s a shout out to all who have contributed so far:

Melissa and family
Jenna
Gwen and Todd
Sam of Lil Gypsy (and her daughter Jasmine and her sweetie pie Stewart!)
Bruce
Roger
Carma
Judi
Teresa
Matt West (Naturopath extraordinaire!)
Gretchin of Scarlet Star Studios
Sven also of Scarlet Star Studios
Gordon
Rob and Jenn
Carol
Deb
John
and Denise
Kevin
Joni
Bob

Thank you for supporting us, our daughter, and a great cause.

I’ll be posting photos of Howard in his “sparkly shoes” after the walk occurs on Saturday (and I know some of you contributed for the opportunity to see Howard in his blinding glory). This post is to give you a preview of things to come as Howard was asked to participate in a Public Service Announcement on Fox Channel 12 for the “Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” event. To whet your appetite, I've included a few pics of the public service announcement being shot, which was filmed in Pioneer Place in downtown Portland last week. In a way, these photos are better than the actual walk because it looks like Howard is just walking around in downtown Portland wearing some pretty darn cute shoes! I don’t have a link to the PSA, but if you want to see the newscast of the guy who did the interviewing, click here. Howard said the news guy just kept admiring his shoes and finally he asked if he could wear them. Howard's shoes truly are fabulous! In this first shot, Howard is talking to grandsons Emmett and Jackson. There is no amount of explaining as to why Papa Howard is wearing high heels . . .

If you are totally motivated (or intrigued) by these photos, there are still two ways you can get involved. One, you can make a contribution. This is easy peasy to do online and only takes a few minutes. Donations big or small are appreciated and all you have to do is click here for a link to our giving website.

The other option is to participate in the walk next Saturday, September 6, 2008. It begins at 10:00 a.m. in Beaverton’s City Park at Southwest Fifth Street and Hall Boulevard, near the Farmer’s Market.

Stay tuned for photos of Howard in his shoes . . . actually walking a mile.
