Glass Beach

Imagine a beach covered in weathered beach glass. Well, it exists on Kauai and today we went for a visit. I had heard of this beach the last time we were here, but hadn't taken the time to figure out where it was. After doing a little Internet research, I found the directions:

Go to Port Allen, turn left at the last street before the port, and locate the oil refinery -- the beach is right below. Sure enough. We hiked the short distance to the beach and B.I.N.G.O. a beach of glass. In doing my research, it sounds like some days there are bigger chunks of glass than other days depending on weather conditions, tides, etc. I didn't find any large pieces of beach glass, but the entire beach was covered not in sand, but finely ground pieces of glass. It was glorious. I only had a small plastic bag pilfered from the glove box of the rental car, so I filled 'er up and plan to return later in the week . . . with a very large bag AND first thing in the morning.

It's so fun to do and find the little things. My kind of vacation.
