Rarely do I have trouble putting together a blog post, but my week in New Orleans was such a whirlwind of sightseeing, exploring, and discovering, that I'm struggling to put my many photos and thoughts into a cohesive presentation. So, I'll just jump in and begin where I am, making this Post #3 -- click here for a link to Post #2.
How about beginning with a picnic along the Mississippi River to watch the sunset. We asked a couple of young men to take a few photos of us and the next thing we knew, they had joined us on our blanket and were helping themselves to our dinner!
Next let's travel to the French Quarter to the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum. All three of us love vintage medical, and this museum delivered, right down to a jar of leeches.
We visited a lot of amazing galleries, but one of our favorites was the Antieau Gallery in the French Quarter. Stephanie had been talking about this gallery for months and when we arrived we were delighted to learn that Chris Roberts-Antieau (the artist herself!) was minding the gallery due to a sick employee. We were all over the moon with the ability to talk directly to Chris.
How about some photos of people? Yes, I think I'll share a few.
I almost did a completely separate blog post on this next place we visited, but I whittled away at my photos just to give you a taste, but I hope you'll follow the link to their website - it's worth the time! Dithyrambalina: Musical Architecture in New Orleans. Also known as The Music Box: A Shantytown Sound Laboratory. This was an interactive village where a person can make sounds and music through all sorts of devices. It's difficult to describe, so I'll share photos and encourage a visit to their website.
My last photo for this post is of me, scavenging for beads. They're all over the place in NOLA leftover from the parades. Nikki just shook her head at me, but I gathered some pretty amazing specimens that will be placed in the alter outside of my studio.
