Poetry Tree

New studio addition: a Poetry Tree. I picked up this giant peel-able sticker kit at a children's toy store in Olympia, Washington. It was so cool, I just had to have one for my studio. Earlier this week as I was putting it up on the wall, Destree and her son, Deven, popped over to say hey and guess who wanted to help?

One Bad Mother

The Orange Dream Monkeys, my visual journaling group, met last night to explore our May theme: Olive Mother Peace. That was a tough one and only a couple of us actually used the theme as a launch pad for pages. I was in charge of food (and gifts) for last night. Here's the spread I put together and the gifts I made for everyone (the gift was a marigold in a colorful little pot).

I experimented with drawing a face using my non-dominant hand. I didn't venture into facial features, will probably opt for something a little more bizarre!

Shelby was quite prolific since our last meeting and last night she completed a couple more pages AND she came to the end of her current journal.

Bobbie completed a couple of pages and got a great start on a little housing village.

These are the pages Destree worked on last night:

Some of my pages - in process, of course.

Our theme for September: Earthy Turquoise Spider. I just may have to get started on that one early!

Love is Afloat!

As some of you know, we live part-time in Portland on a boat called Rapture. Well, on Sunday afternoon Rapture became a party boat when my friend Susan arranged for us to take our friend Jill out on a celebratory cruise - Jill is getting married at the end of the month. I met both Jill and Susan through my Artist's Way classes in Salem, and Susan has gone on to teach the Artist's Way in Corvallis, so the day definitely had a flavor of an Artist's Way event since there were several graduates on board (from either my classes or Susan's!). Since there were going to be at least 18 women on board for the afternoon, we invited Jill's betrothed to come along and keep Captain Howard company.

Howard telling 18 strong women that HE was in charge for the day (well, at least for a few hours)!

Captain Howard and Co-Captain Ron:

The beautiful couple!

Our day of visiting, relaxing, and Jill opening her gifts (and just a little bit of joyful crying).

Jill and Ron dance to a Christine Kane song.

The whole gang, er, crew!

And finally, the beautiful gift Jill gave to each of us:
