Layers of Memory: Latest Class

Last weekend I taught another session of my Layers of Memory class at The Art Department in downtown Salem. This class has proven to be popular and I'm looking forward to offering it again in September. What do we do in this two-part workshop? We paint, plaster, sand, stain, plaster, sand, scritch, paint, scratch, sand, paint, and at the end of the day we wax. Throughout it all, we make a glorious and holy mess.

Part III: Road Trip - Art Classes

Art classes! I took two and a half. I figured as long as I was traveling 2,000 miles to an art retreat, I might as well sign up for a couple of classes. I took two full day classes and one evening class at the last minute. I took two classes from Serena Barton, a favorite teacher, and one from Jane Davies, a teacher I've been wanting to take a class from. Win. Win. Win.

Oil and Cold Wax: Abstracted Play

I just completed teaching a three-week class, Oil and Cold Wax: Abstracted Play at The Art Department in downtown Salem. This was a new class for me to teach and I had six students who were willing to experiment along with me. Our first night I handed out packets with information and resources . . . .

. . . . all of our work spaces were so neat and tidy and filled with such promise and anticipation.

And then everyone got down to work - that's when the real fun began.

Some of the pieces in varied stages of completion by the end of our three weeks together.

It was agreed that the next time I offer this class that it be four weeks in length AND that homework be given in between our sessions. I can do that.
