Save the Cushman

My friend Sam, the proprietress of my favorite vintage clothing store, Lil' Gypsy, acquired a Cushman truck awhile back with the hope of restoring it. Part way into the project, she realized it was going to cost more than she was able to put into it, so she decided to pull the plug. When her daughter Jasmine and I heard about it, we decided we would step in and help Sam to SAVE THE CUSHMAN. We set up a Facebook page, which you can get to and become a friend by going HERE. Of course, we have to show you some photos of the poor little retched truck:

Jump ahead a few months. The decision was made to hold a garage sale to raise funds for renovating the Cushman. A date was set and that date was yesterday. On Saturday night the troops were gathered to set up for our one day mammoth sale.

The sale was held on Sunday and we woke up to grey skies and rain, rain, rain, which didn't let up all day. However, in spite of the rain, people turned out throughout the day, with only two small, brief lulls. In the end, we raised over $1,000 toward the renovation of the little Cushman truck.

PAC Picnic: Tranquility

The Portland Art Collective held their annual picnic this week on the outskirts of Salem in the country. The food at this event is always amazingly beautiful and delicious, and for the most part, pretty darn healthy, too. There were lovely flowers everywhere and time to linger over conversations.

Our summertime art exchange for this year was a recipe swap. Everyone selected two of their favorite recipes and paired it with their own original art and had copies made. When we got together at the picnic, we swapped recipes and Z'anne bound them for us on the spot! (I've included a sampling of some of the pages.)

Here's my recipe cover and the two pages I contributed to the swap:

And a highlight of the day? Getting to hold Tory's newest grandchild, two-week old Olivia!

Salem Salon: Art Squared

I'm in a show at the Salem Art Association called Salem Salon: Art Squared. The show features the work of established and emerging artists living and working in Western Oregon and is an open-all media exhibit. The show is in the A.N. Bush Gallery and runs July 8-September 3. All of the work submitted had to be 16x16 inches, so the show is very striking in that all of the art is the same size.

When I arrived last Friday on opening day, I was delighted and surprised to see who my art had been grouped with: two other members from my Salem Art Group! KC and Katy were right next to me in our little grouping of four!

The Pulse: Chapter 3

I'm participating in Seth Apter's 5th edition of The Pulse, which he describes as:

The State of the Art -- a survey in words and pictures of the online artist community. The Pulse is a collaborative project that aims to introduce you to new artists, help you get to know familiar faces even more, and allow you access into the creative hearts and minds of a very talented crew of individuals. More than 130 artists have answered a series of questions which make up The Pulse. Their responses will be presented in a series of online posts.

My response to the first question: How would you describe your artistic style? appeared in his third post, which appeared on the 4th of July. Here's a link to the whole blog post. Subscribe to Seth's blog, The Altered Page, and you'll receive notification each time a post is made.

Hi, My Name is Tubby

I'm home from a three-week hiatus of living on our boat at the Portland Waterfront. I managed to slip out one day with Stephanie to do some junking and vintage sleuthing and I thought it only appropriate that I share my bounty. I already blogged about where all we visited, so click here for a recap of our day.

This impromptu sign was on the back of the metal No Trespassing sign!
