Yay For Art Classes!

Alley Art Studio
Spring 2010 Classes

It's time to begin thinking about spring, and not just flinging dirt in the garden (at least in the NW where it is warm and sunny)! I am offering a wide range of classes beginning in March -- register early, all of my current classes have filled to capacity. Here's what I'm offering:

The Artist’s Way Creative Clusters (two spaces left)

The Artist’s Way is a 10-week program of creative recovery and art projects based upon Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. Creative Clusters offer a supportive, nurturing exploration of living a life filled with creativity. Whether you desire to be a writer, painter, dancer, musician, or you just want to be more aware of your world, the Artist’s Way will help you open the door to your creativity. $50 deposit due by March 10, 2010; payment plan is available.

Create a beautiful pocket shrine using an altered Altoid tin. I’ll prepare your tin in advance, so it will be rusted and coated with a beautiful blue/green patina (it’ll look like it’s a 100 years old!). I’ll provide all of the materials you’ll need to create a beautiful, inspiring, and meaningful shrine. Items I’ll bring include fancy papers, collage images, glitter, jewels, charms, shells, bottles, rocks, game pieces, lace, ribbons, words, and a bountiful supply of objects from my personal stash.

Collage Up a Storm
Wednesday, March 31, 2010
6:00-9:00 p.m.
$20 (includes all supplies)
Alley Art Studio in Salem
To register, contact dayna@alleyartstudio.com

You will start with your visual journal or a piece of canvas board and transform it into a personal piece of art. You will be guided through the process of creating a collage using a variety of papers, paints, materials, and embellishments to create a collage full of dimension and interest.

Itty Bitty Pretties (an old favorite!)
Thursday, April 8, 2010 (please note corrected date if you received an e-mail message)
5:30-8:30 p.m.
$23.00 (includes all supplies)
Stampin’ Cat Studio in Salem
To register, call 503-390-2553

Experiment with paint, paper, ephemera, and doodads by making little 1.5 x 1.5 masterpieces. Chipboard squares are covered with collage papers, family photos, and then embellished with bits and pieces of found objects, shells, jewels, glitter – unlimited possibilities! Each little tile is a finished piece of art and when grouped together, you have a mini exhibit! I supply everything except your family photos (I can provide photos of strangers if you prefer!). Note: Please bring photocopies of family photographs (copies made on laser printer are best) and make sure images are sized so that they will fit on a 1.5 x 1.5 inch square.

Visual Journaling: A Life Collage – Let the Fun Begin!
Saturday, April 10, 2010
1:00-6:00 p.m.
$40.00 (please bring a watercolor journal – all other supplies provided)
Stampin’ Cat Studio in Salem
To register, call 503-390-2553

Come spend five glorious hours learning visual journaling techniques. I will lead you in a variety of exercises and prompts, allowing you to explore various art mediums in your visual journal. These techniques include, but are not limited to: collage, quotes, writing, paints, inks, daubing, printing, stamping . . . you get the idea. You’ll play with all kinds of art materials: water soluble crayons, oil pastels, chalks, spritzing and spraying alcohol, adding texture, sanding off texture, you’ll even learn how to make your own foam stamp! All you need to bring is a journal – hand bound or store bought (one with heavy paper i.e., watercolor or paper designed for wet media is the best) – that’s all, I provide everything else. No prerequisites or previous experience required and even if you’ve been doing visual journaling for a while, I’m pretty sure you might learn a new trick or two. (And if by chance you know it all, then come play for five uninterrupted hours!)
