Psychosis With Mental Deficiency

I wrote about my involvement with the Oregon State Hospital Mental Health Museum back in October of 2009, when I got to tour the site of the new museum. I also got my first peek into the Hospital's Gold Room, where artifacts and memorabilia is stored. Well, the artifacts in the Gold Room will be moving to a new storage facility later this month and there was need for helpers to do inventory tagging and packing. Since I'm a member of the Exhibits Subcommittee and since I would do just about anything to hang out in the Gold Room, I volunteered to work for a few hours. I had to go through a background check (I passed) and today I spent the afternoon in the Gold Room putting tags on all sorts of things, boxing up some old patient records (I kept hoping I might run across the records for my grandmother), and snapping the occasional photo. Come along for a peek inside the Gold Room . . .





















The Mental Health Museum will be housed in a renovated building on the main campus and is being beautifully restored!

My Stuff

In my last post, Junk Salvation, I promised to share the treasures from my day of junking. One of my favorite finds was a collapsible metal shopping cart. Steph bought one at the last Expo in Portland (out of desperate necessity), and although she graciously shares it when we junk together, I wanted (needed?) one of my own. I'll probably give my rusty cart a nice sturdy name like Betsy or Martha. Of course, Steph and I plan to trick out our carts with ribbons and flowers, maybe a horn, for the upcoming Expo in March.


Here is my take for the day. Not only from Junk Salvation, but also from an antique mall in Hillsboro, Salvage Works in Kenton, and the Rebuilding Center in Portland, all of which equals a grand and glorious pile of stuff.

Junk Salvation

Road trip. Road trip. Well, only to Hillsboro, Oregon, but hey, it was a mini road trip. Steph and I met up at the Tualatin K-Mart and headed west to the Washington County Fairgrounds for the Funky Junk Sisters Junk Salvation - a vintage flea market.



We arrived shortly after it opened at 8:00 am and got to meet the Junk Sisters themselves, and Lara, the Modern Prairie Girl, who happened along about the same time (that's Lara in the middle with the camera).


And then it was time to roam and snap photos of the beautiful displays.






















I did make a few purchases, but I'll share that in a later post.
