Serendipity: A Vintage Boutique

Fabulous! Fabulous! Fabulous! I discovered a charming little vintage shop in downtown Kapaa. I actually saw it last Friday when we arrived on Kauai, but the store was closed with a cute little sign tacked up in the window saying the shop owner was a mom first, and a shopkeeper second. I like that (although I really really wanted the shop to be open) . I kept checking back and then on Monday, shazam!, the door was open. No words needed, that's for sure. The store was filled with my favorite kind of treasures.

This French country shelf is now mine, mine mine!

Mona, the shop owner and a sweet spirited woman, offered me a shell, saying that whenever a purse or something is sold that is designed to hold things, it is the native custom to offer a shell to place in it. Awwww, I love that kind of gesture.

On Aloha Time: Part II

On Friday, we jumped on a little puddle jumper for the one-hour flight to the second part of our vacation: Kauai, known as the Garden Island. As in my first vacation post, I'm not feeling like doing a lot of typing. I will just say there are a lot of wild chickens that roam the island, and if you've never been in a tropical storm that drops 15 inches of rain in one day, well, you haven't gotten as wet as we did yesterday! The cool tee-shirt is Howard's (hemp, no less) and yes, it has flaming hearts (my heart is pitter patting). So here's a glimpse of our first couple days on Kauai (and the last two photos are of the flooding that occurred on the island):

Rainbow Attic - I Now Have Six Feet!

Even while in Hawaii I hunt down junk and thrift stores, so while on Maui, I discovered a great consignment shop, Rainbow Attic in Kihei (check out the store's website just to listen to the sound of the lapping waves!). The store was a popular place and is open daily from 9-9.

I took a photo of this altar for my friend Stephanie. Hey Steph, it was only $500.

The store had some pretty cool stuff and I picked up a few things, but nothing as cool as the table I discovered at the back of the store. Of course, I knew I couldn't fly a table home, but it wasn't the table I wanted....it was the legs of the table and the claw feet clutching glass balls. Oh yeah. We bought the table and once outside the store, Howard inspected the table to see what it would take to get the legs off. Back into the store he went to borrow some tools.

Ta da! And the legs fit catywampus in my suitcase. Good-bye Hawaii, hello Oregon.
